Bazár Tapas Bar & Restaurant

Image
Come to the Bazár!  There’s treasure to be found! Nestled among the eateries on the mini-restaurant row found on 26th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue, you’ll find a hidden gem called Bazár Tapas Bar and Restaurant.  Being that it’s a few short blocks from our home, we decided to give it a try, based solely on its location.  We enjoyed our first visit so much, we’ve now dined there a second time.  It did not disappoint!  The food is fantastic, the service is friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a bustling local crowd. Opened in 2017, Bazár’s menu combines influences of various national cuisines.  To my mind, there’s definitely a Mediterranean feel, mixing Spanish, French and Italian style dishes, with some decidedly American touches. This deliciously mixed bag of cultural offerings allows diners to take a culinary journey of sorts, with varied global flavors and styles from which to choose. Our cocktails were the perfe...

Oiji Mi! OMG!

Image
Oiji Mi, a fabulous new Korean restaurant in New York’s Flatiron District, took me and Vincent on an extraordinary culinary journey!  This incredible fine dining destination features modern interpretations of traditional Korean flavors served in a space that manages to be sleek and contemporary, yet warm and welcoming. Owner and Executive Chef Brian Kim has created a menu that reimagines and elevates well known Korean dishes, presented so beautifully, you’d think they couldn’t possibly taste as good as they look…but they absolutely DO!  Every dish we sampled positively blew us away! When we arrived, there was already a good crowd and the staff was just finishing up resetting our table.  We ordered a couple of cocktails at the bar while we waited.  Vincent chose the Hot Girl Summer, a tall, cool mix of tequila, watermelon, chungju (a clear rice wine) and italicus (a citrusy liqueur). Refreshing and not overly sweet, the drink was garnished with cubes of waterme...

The Press Club Grill

Image
LET’S GO TO PRESS!!  On the east border of Greeley Square, just a couple of blocks from Macy’s, you’ll find The Press Club Grill, a swanky, yet unpretentious restaurant and bar that harkens back to the Mad Men days.  One would almost expect to find Jimmy Breslin hunched over the elegant bar, or Walter Winchell doing a live broadcast from the private dining room upstairs.  Period murals above the banquettes, a vintage-look black and white tile floor, and tiny lamps with red lampshades on each table, complete the yesteryear look and feel.  Appropriately, The Press Club Grill is situated in an area which was once the home of New York’s major periodicals, including The NY Times, the NY Herald, and the NY Tribune, making it a most appropriate location.  And the food from Chef Franklin Becker makes dining at PCG an experience that’s not to be missed! This was our second visit to The Press Club Grill and once again, it did not disappoint!  We began with two...

Hot Ticket NYC: Bad Roman

Image
Vincent and I recently scored one of the hottest tickets in New York City!  No, I’m not talking Hamilton, Sweeney Todd or Here Lies Love!  We got a reservation for dinner at Bad Roman, a hugely popular new restaurant located in the Shops at Columbus Circle!  This new-ish eatery from Quality Branded is described as a modern, maximalist Italian restaurant which features “inauthentic twists on authentic [Italian] dishes.” And while some of the reviews have been less than kind, we found the space itself to be welcoming, whimsical, and fun, and the food to be quite spectacular! We knew we were in for a good time when we walked in and saw the neon-decorated replica of the famous “Il Porcellino della Fortuna” (or as we call it, the Grr-pig!) behind the hostess’ station.  That statue, one of the iconic attractions in Florence, Italy, has become one of our favorite sights, anywhere! From the hostess who sat us and welcomed us in the warmest, most lovely manner, to the ...
